Helping Small Businesses in Kent and Essex Unlock AI in Marketing
This week, Sonya and Julie packed up their laptops and headed out to meet some wonderful small business owners from Kent and Essex. What started as a training session on AI in marketing turned into something much more interesting – watching the penny drop for people who’d been wrestling with marketing for years.
You know that moment when someone suddenly understands how a tool they’ve been avoiding could actually solve their biggest headache? We saw it happen about a dozen times and it was brilliant! The session brought together businesses from a range of industries that all shared one thing – limited time to tackle marketing while juggling everything else that comes with running a business.
What did we cover?
Rather than diving into complex technical explanations, the focus was on practical applications that small businesses could implement right away. The world of marketing is shifting rapidly, particularly in how customers search for and find information online.
- We explored how search behaviour is changing. Customers are moving away from scrolling through multiple search results and increasingly receiving single, AI-generated answers. If your business isn’t part of those consolidated responses, you risk becoming invisible to potential customers who are actively looking for what you offer.
- We dove into Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) – essentially the next evolution of SEO for an AI-driven world. This involves making your content clear, trustworthy, and easily understood by AI tools like ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews.
- But what seemed to resonate most was reframing AI as a quality tool, not just a time-saver. While efficiency matters, AI can genuinely improve the standard of everything you create. That FAQ page you’ve been meaning to update becomes a helpful blog post. Those customer reviews you never knew what to do with become insights that improve your service.
The practical applications we demonstrated included turning existing FAQs into blog content, repurposing materials across different social platforms, drafting more effective customer emails, and transforming customer reviews into actionable business insights.
Why small businesses need this now
The businesses we met were all different, but they shared the same reality – there’s never enough time, and marketing always seems to get squeezed out by urgent tasks.
That’s where AI becomes genuinely useful for small businesses. It’s not about replacing human creativity or connection. It’s about giving small businesses access to tools that help them compete with larger companies who have dedicated marketing departments, without needing massive budgets or specialised staff.
The session demonstrated that AI doesn’t have to be intimidating or require technical expertise. When approached as a practical business tool rather than cutting-edge technology, it becomes accessible to anyone willing to learn a few fundamental techniques.
Moving forward with confidence
The training session was full of questions and lightbulb moments. People left with practical strategies they could implement immediately, not just concepts to consider someday. The focus throughout was on immediate, actionable applications rather than theoretical possibilities.
At Marketing Toolbox, we’re passionate about helping small businesses navigate marketing changes without feeling overwhelmed. Our AI training sessions are designed to cut through the technical jargon and focus on practical applications that deliver real results.
